Continuation of Work for Wheelers Farms Road Bridge Replacement Project Over Route 796 in Milford

The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing continuation of construction activity  for project 83-264 in Milford for the replacement of Bridge 01446 which carries Wheelers Farms Road over SR796. Construction began last year and is recommencing for the 2020 construction season.

Work includes the complete demolition and replacement of the existing bridge, raising the clearance of the bridge, increasing the span and widening of lanes. Additionally, an acceleration and deceleration lane will be added to SR 796. The project will be performed in 3 phases: Phase 1 is the demolition and construction of the East section of the Bridge. Phase 2 is the demolition and construction of the west section of the Bridge. Phase 3 is the addition of the acceleration and deceleration lanes on SR 796.

DOT Project no. 0083-0264 was awarded to New England Road, Incorporated at a cost of $6,848,318.00 on 02/04/2019 and is scheduled to be completed by 11/20/2020.

There will be weekday daytime lane closures on SR796 (Milford Connector) north and southbound in Milford beginning on Thursday, April 2, 2020, for a period of approximately three weeks.

Motorists can expect lane closures on  SR796 northbound, weekdays between 7 AM and 3:30 PM, and on I-95 southbound, weekdays, between 9 AM and 6 PM.

Vehicular and pedestrian traffic will continue to utilize one-way alternating traffic on Wheelers Farms Road via temporary traffic signals until the completion of phase 2.

Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other conditions. Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed and to utilize caution when driving in this vicinity.
