Farmington Canal Heritage Trail Extension Work to Begin

The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that work is scheduled to start on August 31, 2015, for the Farmington Canal Heritage Trail Extension in Cheshire.

The project consists of construction of a share path pedestrian / bicycle trail known as the Farmington Canal Heritage Trail through the Town of Cheshire. The trail is a non-motorized transportation facility built in a historic rail corridor formally known as the Canal Line.  This section of the trail begins north of West Main Street extending from Jarvis Street to the Southington Town Line for a length of 2.5 miles where it will match the existing trail in Southington. The trail will have a 10 to 12 feet wide paved surface with a 2 foot stone dust shoulder.  The trail utilizes three existing bridges that will require paving of the deck and fencing added to accommodate the trail and provide pedestrian safety.

DOT Project No. 0025-0144 was awarded to Schultz Corporation at a cost of $3,776,325.07 on July 21, 2015 and is scheduled to be completed June 25, 2016.
