Minimum Qualifications: This is an unclassified position, subject to appointment by the Commissioner of the Department of Correction in accordance with Section 5-198(g) of the Connecticut General Statutes. This position will be responsible for directing all aspects of operations for the Parole & Community Services division. To be considered, candidates must possess the preferred experience, knowledge and training identified in this job posting.
General Experience:
The Parole & Community Services division oversees community supervision of offenders and enforcement functions of the Department of Correction. The Division has over 150 employees and is based in field offices throughout the state. This position is responsible for directing all division activities to ensure conformance with agency mission, goals, objectives and statutory provisions. Considerable knowledge of and ability to apply management principles and techniques; Superior knowledge of relevant state and federal laws, statutes and regulations; considerable knowledge of community reintegration principles; considerable knowledge of offender management plan development and offender community re-entry programs; considerable knowledge of functions and activities involved in contemporary treatment, rehabilitation and training programs; considerable knowledge of modern correctional methods and practices; considerable interpersonal skills; considerable oral and written communication skills; considerable ability to administer comprehensive parole programs; considerable ability to oversee the supervision of offenders in community-based settings; considerable ability to resolve complex parole issues; ability to develop and evaluate community-based programs which facilitate successful offender reintegration; ability to interpret and apply relevant state and federal laws, statutes and regulations.
Preferred Experience: The preferred candidate will possess a minimum of ten years experience in parole, pardons, probations, community supervision activities or work in a correctional or community setting. Candidates with experience providing senior level management in one of these capacities will be given preference. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of performance including a record of personal and professional integrity. A strong track record of working effectively in a high impact environment is desirable. The ideal candidate must be politically astute, proactive, enthusiastic and dedicated to meeting the goals of our agency's strategic initiatives. Advanced education (Bachelors or Masters Degree) in Criminal Justice or other related field is also preferred.
