Position Title:
Correctional Substance Abuse Counselor (May be under filled as a Correctional Substance Abuse Counselor Trainee) (LATERAL TRANSFER CANDIDATES ONLY)
Open To: Current DOC employees at the level of Correctional Substance Abuse Counselor and Correctional Substance Abuse Counselor Trainee
Location:
Parole & Community Services, Hartford
Hours: 36.25 hours per week
Workweek/Schedule: 1st Shift, Monday - Friday (may require some evening hours)
Salary:
CSAC:              $52,887.00 - $69,056.00 Annually
CSACT:            $41,542.00 - $54,727.00 Annually
*Position is not eligible for meal reimbursement

Eligibility Requirement: To apply for this position you must currently hold the title of Correctional Substance Abuse Counselor or Correctional Substance Abuse Counselor Trainee.   This opportunity is being offered to lateral transfer candidates only.
Preferred Experience: Considerable experience or familiarity dealing with the treatment needs of newly released offenders and a strong background in or knowledge of community resources.  Ability to work independently and build relationships with staff at Correctional Institutions, Parole and Community Services, other law enforcement agencies and community based agencies.  Superior verbal and written communication skills.  Knowledge of programming with specialized DUI population is helpful.
Special Requirement:
Incumbents in the class of Correctional Substance Abuse Counselors are required to maintain certification and/or license in alcohol and drug counseling through the Connecticut Department of Public Health.  Incumbents in the class of Correctional Substance Abuse Counselor Trainee will be eligible for promotion without further competitive examination upon completion of the three (3) year period of training and certification or licensure from the Connecticut Department of Public Health as an Alcohol and Drug Counselor.  Incumbents in this class of Correctional Substance Abuse Counselor Trainee who meet the qualifications of the target class and receive certification or licensure from the Connecticut Department of Public Health as an Alcohol and Drug Counselor before the end of the training period will be eligible for promotion without further examination.
Incumbents may be required to travel and required to work some evening hours.  CSAC will assist in a specialized DUI Unit at Hartford Parole and Community Services.  CSAC will assist Parole Manager, DUI Parole Officer and Addiction Services CS with Casenotes system, home visits, release paperwork, administering breathalyzers and urines, attending home visits with Parole Officers and others duties as assigned by the supervisors.
Note: The filling of this position will be in accordance with reemployment, SEBAC, transfer, promotion and merit employment rules.  State employees should be aware that your performance appraisals, attendance records and discipline records will be reviewed to ensure that you meet DOC Administrative Directive 2.3.
