Law Enforcement Officer/First Responder Training Programs

Since February 1997, the Division of Safety Services has had the pleasure of conducting training for State and Municipal recruits, certified officers, and emergency first responders at the Connecticut Police Academy in Meriden. Courses offered are designed to teach officers and first responders how to recognize symptoms of various mental health and substance use disorders, and how to effectively respond, communicate and de-escalate individuals who are experiencing a mental or behavioral health related crisis. All courses meet the Police Officer Standards and Training Council (POST-C) requirements and are conducted by certified instructors who have extensive behavioral health training experience.

Available Courses:

• Hearing Voices that are Distressing
• Responding to Citizens with Mental Illness  Note: Officers may register for this class using the POST-C website.
