Dissolved Oxygen Maps for Summer 2001

During the summer of 2001 seven surveys were conducted between June 21 and September 24, 2001.  Hypoxia affected a total of 14 stations all of which were located in the Western basin or the Narrows.  The maximum area affected by hypoxia was 344 square kilometers (133 square miles) which is below the average of 502 square kilometers (201 square miles).  The hypoxic event lasted a total of 66 days from July 10  to September 14 well above the 56 day average.
