Best Management Practices for Water Quality While Harvesting Forest Products

Best Management Practices (BMPs) for water quality are minimum standards to be followed to ensure water quality. CT DEEP provides a booklet and a smartphone app that assist certified forest practitioners, private landowners, and municipal officials in utilizing BMPs when harvesting forest products.

This easy-to-use app helps professionals determine recommended BMPs and estimate the costs of BMP projects. It includes helpful tools, such as a soil type map and a clinometer, to determine site-specific guidelines based on slope. The app can be found by searching “CT BMP” in your phone’s app store. The app is currently available for iPhone and Android platforms.

This app was made possible through a combination of funds including a U.S.D.A. Forest Service Landscape Scale Restoration Grant and Supplemental Environmental Project Funds collected from commercial forest practice enforcement actions.
