District Fire Wardens

Per CGS 23-37 District Fire Wardens are appointed by the State Forest Fire Warden (DEEP Commissioner), for a term of 2 years to assist in prevention and extinguishment of forest fires.

The District Fire Warden acts as a liaison between local fire departments and the State of Connecticut DEEP- Forest Protection- Forest Fire Control Officers. Communication links between fire departments and Fire Control Officers can include:

Any Fire Department needs (training requests, coordinating Smokey Bear and/or hose exchange).
Assisting in ensuring fire departments receive program information (i.e. Newsletter).
Assisting in gathering data for entry into Wildland Fire Reporting App (if needed).
Attending any district meetings, trainings, or other fire department functions where Forest Fire Control Officer is requested but unable to attend.

The District Fire Warden also compiles fire bills for fire departments on wildfire incidents and sends them to the Forest Fire Control Officer.

Billing

Eligible Fire Departments are entitled to submit a fire bill utilizing the Wildfire Reimbursement Form to the State of Connecticut through their District Fire Warden. It is the department's responsibility to fill out and submit. Billings for vehicles utilized in suppression efforts will be accepted; vehicles only used for transportation will be excluded.
