DEEP headquarters at 79 Elm Street in Hartford has partially re-opened to staff and members of the public as of Tuesday, February 3. The DEEP records room has re-opened. The DEEP Central Permit Processing Unit (CPPU) will be open to the public starting on Wednesday, Feb. 4. For updates, click here

Sulfur Dioxide

Sulfur dioxide is a colorless gas, odorless at low concentrations but pungent at very high concentrations. It is generated primarily by the burning of fuels that contain sulfur. The contributors to the release of sulfur dioxide in Connecticut are oil and coal fired power plants, industrial sources, residential heating and motor vehicles.

All of Connecticut has been in attainment of the National Ambient Air Quality Standard (NAAQS) for sulfur dioxide since well before the Clean Air Act was amended in 1990.
