Malloy and the Connecticut Office of Tourism today announced the results of an economic impact study of the tourism industry in Connecticut, showing total direct and indirect business sales supported by the travel industry reached $14.7 billion in 2015 – a 4.6 percent increase since 2013. The study also shows that tourism employment grew 2 percent since 2013 to reach 82,688 jobs in 2015, the fifth straight year of employment growth.

  • Gov. Malloy Unveils New Apprenticeship Program to Grow Jobs, Strengthen Workforce Skills and Boost State’s Manufacturing Industry

    Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that the state is launching a new workforce development initiative through the Manufacturing Innovation Fund that supports a combination of on-the-job training and classroom instruction for apprentices in the manufacturing industry. The Manufacturing Innovation Fund Apprenticeship Program will provide wage subsidies and tuition reimbursements to eligible companies in order to increase the number of apprentices in Connecticut and ensure a talented, skilled workforce for the future.

    Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced the Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD), the University of Connecticut (UConn), and the United Technologies Research Center (UTRC) will take part in a new Flexible Hybrid Electronics Manufacturing Innovation Institute (FHE MII), a virtual institute consisting of more than 160 companies, universities, and non-profits.     Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that leading biopharmaceutical company Alexion Pharmaceuticals, Inc. will establish its global headquarters at a new facility to be built in New Haven by 2015. The state will support the project through the First Five program, Governor Malloy's signature economic initiative that is creating jobs by spurring large-scale business development projects. The company will relocate its existing Connecticut workforce of more than 350 employees to the facility once it is complete and expects to create 200-300 new jobs in the state by 2017. In addition, hundreds of jobs in service industries are expected to be created as a result of Alexion's move to New Haven.
