Connecticut was among the first states to enact legislation establishing an Art in Public Spaces program. The purpose of the program is to provide the citizens with an improved public environment by investing in creative works of high quality in public buildings. The program requires that not less than 1% of the cost of construction or renovation of publicly accessible buildings be allocated for the commission or purchase of artwork for that building.
The Connecticut Office of the Arts implements the Art in Public Spaces program in consultation with the Connecticut Division of Construction Services.
Both Connecticut artists, as well as those from other states, are welcome to register in the Art in Public Spaces Registry and supply their qualifications (portfolio of images and resume). Only artists included in the registry will be considered for public art opportunities. You can learn more about eligibility here.
