Patients who delayed renewal in anticipation of the law change are reminded to re-register to continue receiving program benefits
HARTFORD — The Department of Consumer Protection is reminding patients and caregivers that registration fees for the Medical Marijuana Program are eliminated beginning July 1, 2023.
“This change will create easier access and affordability for patients,” said DCP Commissioner Bryan T. Cafferelli. “Patients waiting to renew their registration until this change takes effect should renew their registration after July 1 to continue receiving the benefits of the Medical Marijuana Program. Patients in the medical program have access to a broader range of products and resources than adult-use cannabis consumers, such as access to a pharmacist. The average price for medical marijuana products remains lower than adult-use products, and there is no tax on medical products, which also helps keep costs lower for people who rely on this medicine.”
The Medical Marijuana Program launched in 2012. Patients previously paid an annual registration fee of $100, while caregivers paid a $25 registration fee. The fees were eliminated in legislation passed in 2022, with an effective date of July 1, 2023.
