Consumer Protection Reminds Adults Who Choose To Grow Cannabis At Home To Do So Responsibly
Beginning July 1, adults may grow 3 mature and 3 immature cannabis plants in their home
HARTORD — The Department of Consumer Protection is reminding adults who choose to grow cannabis at home to follow all laws and regulations, and use safe gardening practices.
Under the law, all adults 21 and older may grow up to three mature and three immature plants in their home, with a maximum of 12 plants per household, beginning July 1, 2023.
Plants should be secure from children, pets and others who should not have access to cannabis. Cannabis must be grown indoors in a secured, locked area that is not visible to the public.
“Adults who choose to grow their own cannabis should use safe and healthy gardening practices for growing any products they intend to consume,” said DCP Commissioner Bryan T. Cafferelli. “Plants should also be kept indoors, out of reach and out of sight from children and pets.”
Adults who choose to consume cannabis are reminded to do so responsibly, including storing cannabis products in their original child-proof packaging, locked up and out of reach of children and pets. Cannabis was approved for adult-use in June 2021. Adult-use sales began Jan. 10, 2023 at licensed retailers. For more information about Adult-Use Cannabis, visit ct.gov/cannabis.
