About the Licensing Unit
Educational standards and examinations are developed and monitored by this Unit for all courses, study materials, and instructors used in conjunction with approved pre-license training programs required by Connecticut General Statutes. Courses are approved for insurance companies, educational institutions, insurance associations, insurance training schools and insurance publishing companies. Testing is conducted by a Third Party Vendor.
The Unit determines the qualifications for all applicants applying for licenses, and also regularly reviews the qualifications for its individual and business entity licensees, in the following categories: Casualty Adjuster, Certified Insurance Consultant, Fraternal Agent, Motor Vehicle Physical Damage Appraiser, Premium Finance Company, Producer, Public Adjuster, Reinsurance Intermediary Broker and Manager, Surplus Lines Broker, Life Settlement Broker, as well as Rental Car Company permits for rental car companies offering insurance in connection with the rental of a vehicle.
In addition to ensuring that all of the above resident and nonresident license classes continue to comply with Connecticut laws and regulations, the Unit also monitors Continuing Education compliance for resident individual Life, Health, Property, Casualty, and Personal Lines Producers.
The Unit also provides online resources for obtaining license information for both licensees and Consumers, in accordance with Connecticut's Freedom of Information Act.
