State Foam Trailers and Fire Department Task Forces Respond to Multi-alarm Torrington Fire

Four foam trailers part of DESPP’s Commission on Fire Prevention and Control regional foam trailer program have responded to assist at a multi-alarm tire warehouse fire in the City of Torrington.  The trailers are state assets  but operated by fire departments throughout the state.  The four trailers that responded to today’s incident in Torrington are operated by the Winsted, Waterbury, Danbury and Hartford Fire Departments.  The trailers are equipped with 500 gallons of firefighting foam that mixes with water in proportions of 1-3% along with specialty nozzles for proper application.  Foam is typically needed for any fire or spill involving flammable or combustible liquids.  Application of foam will also reduce the toxic and flammable vapors given off by various fuels.  In addition, seven Fire Coordinators representing the Commission’s Statewide Fire Rescue Disaster Response Plan have been assisting with mutual aid coordination.  Fire Department Task Forces from Litchfield, Hartford and Fairfield Counties have responded to this incident.
