Q Endorsement Training/Testing Train-the-Trainer Programs

The Connecticut Fire Academy is offering two Train the Trainer programs for the Q Endorsement program. These Train the Trainer classes will allow compliance with Public Act 13-271, which states: A license of any class that contains the designation "Q" indicates eligibility to operate fire apparatus. A "Q" endorsement shall signify that the holder has been trained to operate fire apparatus in accordance with standards established by the Commission on Fire Prevention and Control. No such endorsement shall be issued to any person until he or she demonstrates personally to the commissioner, or the commissioner's designee, including the Connecticut Fire Academy, any regional fire school or the chief local fire official of any municipality as defined in section 7-323j, by means of testing in a representative vehicle that such person possesses the skills necessary for operation of fire apparatus.

The first program will be held Monday, November 24, 2014 at the Hartford Fire Department Training Academy 1 Fischer Road in Hartford beginning at 0830, the program is expected to encompass about 4 hours. Hartford presentation is full.

The second program is scheduled for Saturday, November 29, 2014 at the Orange Volunteer Fire Department 625 Orange Center Road and is Co-sponsored by the Valley Fire Chief’s Association. Starting time is also 0830.

Both programs will encompass an overview of the Q Endorsement instructional program and a review of the static course testing by a DMV Inspector from Specialized Driver Testing. Materials for the local delivery of the class will be available and handed-off.  Completion of these or a future Q Endorsement Train the Trainer program is required for eligibility to serve as a DMV Commissioners Designee for testing purposes.

Additional train the trainer classes will be delivered statewide in the spring of 2015.

If you have questions or plan to attend either train the trainer please email Mark Salafia at mark.salafia@ct.gov and note which class you will be attending so enough materials will be available.
