Connecticut Fire Academy CPAT
At the conclusion of the Fall 2024 CPAT sessions, the Connecticut Fire Academy CPAT training facility was tentatively scheduled to relocate to a new indoor location. Unfortunately, at the last minute, we were informed that our request to use the facility space had been denied. With that disappointing blow, we’re only going to be able to offer CPAT training and testing during the Spring and Fall months, as in the past.
Registration for the Spring 2025 sessions opens on the Acadis learning portal on February 1, 2025. The presently scheduled testing dates are listed below. More sessions will be added as the initial dates fill up.
Group 1 / Weekend 5-day session March 15 (orientation 1), March 29 (orientation 2), April 12 (practice #1), April 26 (practice #2) and May 10 (final CPAT)
Group 3 / Weekday 5-day session March 13 (orientation 1), March 27 (orientation 2), April 10 (practice #1), April 24 (practice #2) and May 9 (final CPAT)
Weekend Special Sessions (Test days only) – Session #2 (April 5th), Session #4 (May 17th)
Weekday Special Sessions (Test days only) – Session #1 (April 4th), Session #3 (May 16th)

What is CPAT?
The Candidate Physical Ability Test is a practical exam used to test a candidate's physical ability to perform job tasks related to firefighting. CPAT is a physically demanding test that requires a candidate to use his or her physical, mental abilities and, in some cases, balance. The CPAT involves eight events that must be completed in 10 minutes 20 seconds. The CPAT process is used in the selection of firefighters in participating fire agencies throughout the State of Connecticut.
