CAES IAPP has been surveying Fence Rock Lake in Guilford, CT yearly since 2009 in order to track the invasion of the invasive Brazilian waterweed (Egeria densa). 2009 was the first invasion year of this plant in Connecticut. Over the years small patches have coalesced into large patches. In 2012 the western cove had Brazilian waterweed growing across the cove in a north to south fashion. In the south portion of the larger area of the lake a very large patch of Brazilian waterweed was growing that was not found in any of the other surveys. Also growing in this patch in high density were four native plants: coontail (Ceratophyllum demersum), snailseed pondweed (Potamogeton bicupulatus), small pondweed (Potamogeton pusillus), and humped bladderwort (Utricularia gibba). Another large patch of Brazilian waterweed was growing along the north west shore of the larger cove. This patch reached deeper water than previous years and also had the four same natives growing with it.
