2009 Aquatic Plant Survey of Fence Rock Lake

Transect Data | Water Data

Fence Rock Lake is a private 16.9-acre lake in Guilford, CT. The averaging a depth in its center is about 5.0 meters. Aquatic vegetation occurs only near the shores. Except for a wooded area on the eastern side of the lake, most of the lakeshore is developed and residential. No public boat launch is available.

Our September 2009 survey found fifteen species of aquatic plants of which only Brazilian waterweed (Egeria densa) is invasive. Rarely found overwintering in CT, this occurrence of Brazilian waterweed was the first time it was documented by our formal surveys. Brazilian waterweed was mostly found in a medium patch on the northern shore of the western cove. Of the native plant species observed, the most common was low watermilfoil (Myriophyllum humile) which covered the eastern shores. White water lily (Nymphaea odorata) occurred sporadically along the shore.
