Upper Dividend Pond, Rocky Hill
Upper Dividend Pond is a 5.8-acre pond located in Rocky Hill, CT. The town of Rocky Hill designated the land surrounding the pond as open space in June 2012. Trails allow for recreational hiking and fishing around the perimeter of the pond. An old industrial dam is located in the northeast tip. This dam drains Upper Dividend Pond into Lower Dividend Pond.
Both Upper and Lower Dividend Ponds were surveyed by CAES IAPP in 2012 (Lower Dividend Pond Survey). Seven species were found in Upper Dividend Pond. One plant was invasive, curlyleaf pondweed (Potamogeton crispus). It was found growing in four small patches around the pond. Only a few sprigs of the plant were found at each location. The most commonly found native plant was common duckweed (Lemna minor). This is a small floating plant and was found growing in thin long patches around the shoreline. One other floating leaf plant, white water lily (Nymphaea odorata), was found growing as single plants in two locations. Canadian waterweed (Elodea canadensis) was found growing in small patches with common duckweed. Several shoreline species were found in small patches as well: primrose-willow (Ludwigia species), arrowhead (Sagittaria species), and cattail (Typha species).
