2015 Aquatic Plant Survey Map of Dodge Pond
Dodge Pond is a 30-acre waterbody located in East Lyme CT. The pond has a maximum depth of 16 meters (51 feet) and due to step sidewalls, a very small littoral zone for plant growth. A U.S. Navy sonar laboratory is located in the deepest part of the pond connected to the shore by a dock. Motors are prohibited.
Our 2015 CAES IAPP survey was a resurvey from 2004. In 2004, 15 native aquatic plant species and no invasive species were recorded. Our 2015 survey found 14 native species and no invasive species. The most dominant plant in 2015 was Robbins' pondweed (Potamogeton robbinsii). Other commonly found plants were white water lily (Nymphaea odorata), western waterweed (Elodea nuttallii), and slender naiad (Najas flexilis).
The western cove was very shallow and contained dense growths of many emergent species including pickerelweed (Pontederia cordata), watershield (Brasenia schreberi), yellow water lily (Nuphar variegata), and large-leaf pondweed (Potamogeton amplifolius).
