Summary of Tick Testing Results for 1997  

A total of 2,987 ticks feeding on humans were submitted for identification in 1997. Of these, 2,684 were tested for the presence of Borrelia burgdorferi, the causative organism of Lyme disease, and 531 (19.8%) were found to carry this organism. The species names and numbers of specimens received, tested, and found positive are shown in the table below.
