Summary of Tick Testing Results for 1996  

A total of 5,612 ticks feeding on humans were submitted for identification in 1996. Of these, 4,951 were tested for the presence of Borrelia burgdorferi, the causative organism of Lyme disease, and 1,059 (21.4%) were found to carry this organism. The species names and numbers of specimens received, tested, and found positive are shown in the table below.
