Services to Individuals who are Deafblind

BESB provides funding to create opportunities for recreation, communication, socialization and other services that further community inclusion for adults age 21 or older who are deafblind.  An individual is considered to be deafblind if his or her vision meets the statutory definition of legal blindness or impaired vision and the individual’s hearing is non-functional for the purpose of understanding ordinary conversation with optimum amplification.  Individuals who are deafblind may request funds for programs they design to provide access to recreation, communication, socialization and other services that reduces social isolation and increases involvement in the community.  Additionally, organizations, providers, individuals and other entities may request funds to provide services to individuals or to groups of individuals who are deafblind.
