Attorney General Pleased DPUC Reduced Connecticut Water Company Rate Request, Disappointed Cut Not Deeper

July 14, 2010

“I am pleased that the Department of Public Utility Control (DPUC) heeded my call, slashing the Connecticut Water Company’s unreasonable 30 percent rate increase request by more than half, but 12.7 percent is still too high. Struggling businesses and consumers need rate restraint, and the company, like its customers, should tighten its belt. I am disappointed that the DPUC allowed Connecticut Water a profit of up 9.75 percent -- excessive and unnecessary in today’s tough economy.

“My office will review the decision to determine whether additional action is warranted.”
