Attorney General Applauds Guilty Plea By Haven Healthcare CEO

January 5, 2010

"Ray Termini's conduct egregiously endangered the health and wellbeing of nursing home residents, and now federal authorities have brought him to justice for looting his company. I applaud the diligence and determination of the U.S. Attorney's Office and other federal authorities.

"My office cooperated extensively with federal authorities in connection with this investigation. We also played a significant role in the Haven Healthcare bankruptcy proceedings, acting to quickly terminate Termini's control of the various Haven companies. My office helped ensure that all Haven facilities were transferred to other operators.

"My investigation is ongoing, and my office will continue to energetically enforce state law and protect state healthcare dollars, as well as assure nursing homes properly care for residents. Plundering nursing homes -- as happened at Haven Healthcare -- is intolerable, unconscionable and unacceptable. We will fight to protect society's most vulnerable from unscrupulous owners seeking to profit from substandard care."
