Attorney General Announces Toyota To Cover Cost Of Rentals, Loaners, Tows For Recalled Vehicles

February 26, 2010

Attorney General Richard Blumenthal today expressed satisfaction that Toyota has announced -- as he demanded -- it will cover the cost of needed loaner and rental vehicles, as well as tows and expedited repairs, for all its recalled vehicles.

“These refunds and repair policies are the least that Toyota should do to make sure that its cars are safe and consumers are compensated for the huge cost and inconvenience imposed by the company’s problems,” Blumenthal said. “I will continue to fight for consumers and investigate Toyota’s conduct along with other attorneys general and the federal government.

“Toyota’s decision removes a disturbing disincentive for consumers and dealers to fix possibly deadly mechanical flaws. Drivers and dealers must no longer risk financial loss to assure potentially dangerous vehicles are repaired. I urge consumers to have their vehicles inspected and, if necessary, repaired as soon as possible.”

Toyota also urged consumers not to wait for recall notices to bring in their vehicles.

Vehicles recalled for possible problems with accelerators or floor mat entrapment are: 2009-2010 RAV4s, 2009-2010 Corollas, 2009-2010 Matrixes, 2005-2010 Avalons, certain 2007-2010 Camrys, 2008-2010 Highlanders, 2007-2010 Tundras, 2008-2010 Sequoias, 2004-2009 Priuses, 2005-2010 Tacoma, and 2008-2010 VENZAs.

Vehicles recalled for possible antilock brake problems are: 2010 Priuses and 2010 HS 250h Lexuses.

Recalled for possible driveshaft problems are certain 2010 Tacoma 4WD trucks.
