Attorney General Praises Feds For Extending Time For Car Dealers To Submit Cash For Clunkers Applications

August 24, 2009

"I am pleased that federal officials have wisely extended the deadline for Cash for Clunker applications, as we urged publicly and then in private discussions over the weekend and today on behalf of dealers and consumers.

"This additional flexibility recognizes the frailty of information technology in the face of this program's huge popularity and success.

"Although the deadline for deals remains at 8 p.m. tonight, we have been authoritatively informed that applications will be accepted until noon tomorrow, even if they initially lack some of the supporting documents.

"We will continue to fight for Connecticut dealers and consumers in making sure this program serves its very worthwhile goals -- working with Sen. Christopher Dodd, who has led these efforts, and the Connecticut Automotive Retailers Association, headed by James T. Fleming. We commend and thank the federal Department of Transportation for heeding consumer and dealer interests."
