• State Joins $2.7 Million National Settlement with Pediatric Services of America, Inc. to Resolve Overcharging Allegations

  Attorney General George Jepsen, Chief State’s Attorney Kevin T. Kane and state Department of Social Services (DSS) Commissioner Roderick L. Bremby announced today that Connecticut has joined a federal-state settlement with Pediatric Services of America Inc. (PSA) to resolve allegations that the company inappropriately failed to return overpayments received from state Medicaid programs as well as other federally insured health programs. PSA is also alleged to have overcharged for home nursing services by improperly rounding-up claims to the nearest whole hour. The Georgia-based pediatric and home-care company has agreed to pay the states and the federal government $2.7 million.

  Attorney General George Jepsen is urging U.S. Senate leaders to oppose national “right-to-carry” reciprocity legislation that would require states to recognize the gun-permitting laws of other states, including the right to carry concealed weapons.

  Attorney General George Jepsen said that Ohio-based Cadlerock Properties Joint Venture, L.P. has been ordered to pay a $282,000 civil penalty for failing to comply with a pollution abatement order issued by the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) in 1997.

  The state has initiated a False Claims Act lawsuit alleging that a Norwalk-based family practitioner engaged in a pervasive and illegal scheme to defraud Connecticut's Medicaid program by submitting false claims for services never provided, Attorney General George Jepsen and state Department of Social Services Commissioner Roderick L. Bremby said today.

  Attorney General George Jepsen has joined a coalition of 15 other attorneys general, the California Air Resources Board, and the Corporation Counsel for the City of Chicago in notifying the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) of their intention to sue the Agency. In a letter to EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt, the coalition provides the required notice of their intention to sue for failing to fulfill its mandatory obligation under the Clean Air Act to control methane emissions from existing oil and natural gas sources and for "unreasonably delaying" the issuance of such controls.
