Hospital Conversions Archive

Pursuant to Conn. Gen. Stat. 19a-486 et seq., the Office of the Attorney General is responsible for reviewing proposed transfers of assets or operations of nonprofit hospitals to for-profit entities within the State of Connecticut. The Attorney General's review and approval is required whenever a nonprofit hospital enters into an agreement to transfer a material amount of its assets or operations to a for-profit entity. These reviews are conducted jointly with the Department of Public Health, Office of Health Care Access.

The Nonprofit Hospital Conversion Act is found in Chapter 368v and sections 19a-486 through 19a-486h of the Connecticut General Statutes.

    Greater Waterbury Health Network, Inc. (The Waterbury Hospital)

    Currently our Office is reviewing a joint venture agreement between Greater Waterbury Health Network, Inc. and its affiliated entities (collectively "GWHN") and a subsidiary of  Vanguard Health Systems, Inc.

    Eastern Connecticut Health Network, Inc. (ECHN)

    Currently our Office is reviewing the proposed transfer of certain assets from Eastern Connecticut Health Network, Inc. and its affiliated entities (collectively "ECHN") to a joint venture to be formed between Tenet Healthcare Corporation ("Tenet") and Yale-New Haven Health Services Corporation ("YNHHSC").
