Connecticut State Department of Education Public Announcement On The Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP)
Accepting CACFP Applications on an Ongoing Basis from Public and Private Institutions for Nonresidential Child and Adult Day Care Centers, Emergency Shelters and Family Day Care Homes in Connecticut
(HARTFORD, CT) – The Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE) today announced it is accepting applications on an ongoing basis from public and private institutions to become sponsors of the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP). The CACFP is funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and provides nutritious meals and snacks at no separate cost to enrolled participants, including infants and young children receiving services in day care centers, family day care homes and emergency shelters, as well as adults in eligible nonresidential day care centers.
Participating institutions serve meals to all participants regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability.
More than 325 local child care centers and adult day care centers in Connecticut participate in the CACFP through 135 locally sponsored programs and provide nutritious meals to more than 20,700 participants daily. Approximately 800 day care home provider locations throughout the state also participate in the CACFP under the sponsorship of six local and statewide sponsoring organizations and provide meals to more than 4,000 children daily.
CACFP sponsors are reimbursed for each meal served according to predetermined USDA reimbursement rates based on the income levels of the families served by the program. The following chart containing income guidelines will be used to determine funding in Connecticut from July 1, 2018, to June 30, 2019.
