Description of Unit

The unit “Number and Operations in Base 10 from the Georgia DOE,  contains an Overview; Content and Practice Standards; Enduring Understandings; Essential Questions; Concepts and Skills to Maintain; Selected Terms and Symbols; Strategies for Teaching and Learning; Evidence of Learning; and 18 Math Tasks.  In this unit, students are expected to understand, and use place value; continue to develop understanding of addition and subtraction; and use strategies and properties to operate proficiently and fluently. In addition, students will draw picture graphs, create bar graphs with intervals greater than one and use graphs and information from data to ask questions comparing quantities.

Cautions

Connecticut teachers should be aware that the Standards for Mathematical Practice (SMPs) are not explicitly addressed in the unit activities. Explicit supports/ differentiation for English Language Learners, students with disabilities, struggling learners or high achievers are not provided. Formative Assessment Lessons (FALS) are provided as “pre-assessment” for teachers to use results/ information to differentiate the material to fit the needs of the students.
