East Hartford-based aerospace manufacturer Pratt & Whitney is set to receive almost $500 million in funding from the recently passed 2024 Defense Appropriations bill for engine upgrades.

The fiscal year 2024 Defense Appropriations Act, which was released by the U.S. House and Senate last week, includes $497 million in funding for Pratt’s F135 Engine Core Upgrade. That program will update the company’s F-35's propulsion system to increase its durability and fully enable certain capabilities, the company said.

The upgrade is set to move into detailed design later this year, according to Pratt.
