LT. GOVERNOR BYSIEWICZ HIGHLIGHTS ACCESS HEALTH CT BROKER ACADEMY

The Broker Academy is open to all Connecticut residents and provides free broker training in effort to diversify brokers

(HARTFORD, CT) – Today, Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz and Access Health CT highlighted The Broker Academy which creates a pathway to license health insurance brokers by recruiting from, and building the skillsets of, those who live and work in historically underserved communities throughout Connecticut. The program, now in its second year, was created as part of AHCT’s mission-driven approach to reduce health disparities and drive change within underserved communities.

“The Access Health CT Broker Academy is the first of its kind; the no cost training program reinforces their mission to reduce the uninsured rate and to eliminate healthcare disparities in our state,” said Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz. “I want to thank Access Health CT for everything that they are doing to reduce barriers and to provide greater access to health insurance in Connecticut. Governor Lamont and I are committed to providing relief for families and those on fixed incomes by making it easier to afford basic goods and services, especially access to affordable health care.”

“We are excited to launch the second year of our Broker Academy, it's a great opportunity for individuals that live and work in underserved areas to start a new and very lucrative career while helping their community,” said Tammy Hendricks, Director of Health Equity & Outreach.

The program is open to all Connecticut residents. Applicants must be 18 years or older, hold a high school diploma or GED, have one to three letters of recommendation, and have community service experience. Preference will be given to applicants who reside or work in underserved areas.

Accepted Broker Academy candidates will receive free training, a five-month apprenticeship with an experienced broker, professional development, and program support. Applications are open until March 31. Weekly training sessions for program readiness will be held in May and in-person classes begin June 5.
