• 4/24/2019 Governor Lamont Signs Order Directing State Agencies to Reduce Energy Consumption and Environmental Impacts

  Governor Ned Lamont today announced that he has signed an executive order – his first since being sworn into office earlier this year – that directs executive branch state office buildings and vehicle fleets to become greener and more energy efficient through an expanded “Lead By Example” sustainability initiative aimed at reducing the state’s carbon footprint and reducing the cost of government operations. This includes meeting the state’s overall statutory goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 45 percent reduction from 2001 levels by 2030 and reducing waste disposal and water consumption by 25 percent and 10 percent, respectively, by 2030 from a defined baseline of 2020.

• 4/23/2019 Governor Lamont Announces Elena Trueworthy Will Serve as Connecticut’s Head Start Coordinator

  Governor Ned Lamont today announced that Elena Trueworthy of New Britain will serve as the director of the Connecticut Head Start State Collaboration Office. In this role, she will be responsible for helping support implementation of the federal Head Start program, which provides comprehensive early childhood education, health, nutrition, and patient involvement services to low-income children and their families. The position is housed within the Connecticut Office of Early Childhood (OEC), the state’s leading agency that serves young children from birth to five and their families, and is authorized by the federal Head Start Act.

• 4/23/2019 Governor Lamont: State Terminates Purchase Agreement for Griswold Property

  Governor Ned Lamont today announced that the Department of Administrative Services has terminated a purchase and sale agreement for a 113-acre piece of land in Griswold that was a proposed site for a Connecticut State Police gun range. Following the governor’s decision not to seek bonding money for the property, the department exercised its right to terminate the agreement and delivered a letter to the property owner, notifying him that it no longer plans to purchase the property.

• 4/18/2019 Governor Lamont Nominates Marissa Paslick Gillett to Serve as a Commissioner of the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority

  Governor Ned Lamont today announced that he is nominating Marissa Paslick Gillett of Baltimore, Maryland to serve as a commissioner of the Connecticut Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA), the state entity responsible for regulating the rates and services of Connecticut’s investor-owned electricity, natural gas, water, and telecommunications companies. It also serves as the franchising authority for the state’s cable television companies.

  Governor Ned Lamont and Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz today were invited by executives and employees from Dominion Energy to visit the Millstone nuclear facility in Waterford to celebrate an agreement reached by Dominion and the state’s two electric utilities last month to keep the facility open for another decade. The shutdown of the plant would have exposed the New England region to a nearly 25 percent increase in carbon emissions, increased risk of rolling blackouts, billions of dollars in power replacement costs, and the loss of more than 1,500 well-paying jobs right here in Connecticut.

  Governor Ned Lamont and Department of Administrative Services (DAS) Commissioner Josh Geballe today announced a series of items to reduce bureaucracy, streamline procurement, and ultimately make it easier for businesses to work with the state. Included in the items is a bill currently pending in the legislature that will eliminate thousands of unnecessary forms processed by DAS annually. The announcement was made during a tour of Infoshred, a document shredding facility in East Windsor.
