Lt. Gov. Bysiewicz Announces 'Galvanize Connecticut'

Women’s Leadership Summit to be held at Goodwin College on December 7th

10/24/2019

(HARTFORD, CT) – Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz announced today that the Governor’s Council on Women and Girls is teaming up with United State of Women (USOW) and the Connecticut Collective for Women and Girls to co-host a one day summit focused on empowerment of women and girls on December 7, 2019 at Goodwin College in East Hartford. Galvanize Connecticut will include panel discussions, keynote presentations by nationally recognized speakers, trainings on combatting systems that perpetuate gender inequity, opportunities to network with local and national organizations at an Engagement Fair, and more.

“Galvanize Connecticut is all about bringing women and girls together, not only to celebrate who we are and all that we have accomplished throughout history and in our daily lives, but also to work together to advance equality and opportunity for all women in our state,” said Lt. Governor Bysiewicz. “We are so excited to work the United State of Women, the CT Collective for Women and Girls and a host committee of women leaders throughout the state to give women and girls the tools they need to break down barriers and achieve success in every aspect of their lives.”

Led by the Connecticut Women's Education and Legal Fund (CWEALF), the Connecticut Collective for Women and Girls is a collaborative network of women and girls serving organizations across the state.

Kate Farrar, Executive Director of CWEALF, said, “Representing over thirty organizations and seven community funders, the CT Collective for Women and Girls is thrilled to welcome Galvanize to Connecticut. Galvanize is an opportunity to join together from across our state to learn and be inspired to take action to advance gender equity.”

Galvanize programming was designed by USOW, an initiative of Civic Nation, a 501(c)(3) organization, and was born out of a national USOW bi-annual summit to help facilitate state-level programming in the years in between.

USOW Executive Director, Jordan Brooks, said, “The United State of Women is thrilled to bring the Galvanize program to Connecticut to amplify the work of dedicated stakeholders pushing for gender equity across the state. We want to convene them together for a day to bring more capacity to concrete solutions that are working on the ground in communities. USOW is incredibly grateful to the Lieutenant Governor’s office and the Connecticut Collective for Women and Girls for co-hosting this program with us, and for their deep commitment to the advancement of all women and girls across the great state of Connecticut.”

Brittney Yancy, USOW Ambassador for Greater Hartford, said, “Galvanize Connecticut will rally stakeholders, students, and community members across the state who are in this fight for full gender equality. We look forward to equipping all attendees with the tools to break barriers and build pathways to equity.”
