The Save a Life Tour program continues to visit schools throughout Connecticut, brought in by the HSO to teach young drivers and future drivers about the dangers of distracted driving. This program allows students the opportunity to use realistic distracted driving simulators, view a high-impact safe driving video and to sign a pledge during the program promising they will not text and drive or drive distracted, alone or with their peers. Providing a hands-on experience, this program demonstrates to teens the real consequences of driving distracted.
The Choices Matter mission is to provide students and young adults with the opportunity to be educated on life-changing decisions, specifically highway safety decisions, that they may face in the future. The program has traveled across the nation and features a motivational speaker who shares a powerful life story on how impaired driving changed many lives forever. This program is an educational outreach effort used in Connecticut to engage young students who are often placed in difficult social situations where making poor choices, namely drinking and driving, occur frequently. This presentation leaves a lasting impact on students and their school community, while providing an important reminder about the consequences of the choices and decisions they are faced with at a critical stage in their lives.
