Upload an Image

The Media Library is a central storage area that contains all the images and dependent files (pdf, word, excel, ppt, etc.) found on your website. When you want to add an image or link to a file on a page, the image or file needs to be in the Media Library first.

Uploading an image to the Media Library can be done in multiple ways:

 

Upload an Image from the Experience Editor

  1. From the Experience Editor, right-click on the Sitecore Platform icon Sitecore Platform icon at the top left corner of the screen to open in a new browser tab so you still have access to the Experience Editor to get back to.
  2. Select the Media Library Media Library icon icon. The Media Library window opens.
  3. Navigate to your Agency folder, then to the folder or sub-folder you want to store the image(s) in.
  4. Select the Upload files (advanced) button.


  5. If your screen brings up the Batch Upload dialog box, then:

    • Select the Choose File button.
    • Browse and select the image(s) on your computer.
      • Ensure your images are optimized for the web to reduce file size and help make the page load faster.
      • You can upload more than one image at a time.
    • Select the Upload button.
      • Your image(s) will appear in the Uploaded media items section with a warning message.
      • The warning message is for the Alternate text that you will need to add to the image for ADA compliance.
    • Select the Close button to exit the Batch Upload screen.
    • The image(s) you uploaded will appear in the Media Library Content Area with the warning message.
  6. If your computer screen brings up your computer folder, then browse and select the image(s) you wish to upload.
    • You can upload more than one image at a time.
    • Ensure your images are optimized for the web to reduce file size and help make the page load faster.

  7. Enter a simple description of the image in the Alternate Text field.
    • Alternate text provides a description of the image that screen readers and search engines read to better understand the image.
    • Keep alt text simple and meaningful.
  8. Ensure the following check box is selected. The others are optional.
    • Make uploaded media items versionable - Provides the ability to save versions of your images.
      • Overwrite existing media items - Provides the ability to upload a file with the same name as a file that already exists in the Media Library, and want to overwrite the existing file. If you do not select this option, a duplicate file is created in the Media Library.
      • Unpack ZIP archives - Select this option to upload and extract a Zip archive to the Media Library.In the .zip file, you can include subfolders with files. The folder structure is re-created in the Media Library after the files are extracted.
      • Upload as files - This option to store the file in the file system rather than in the database. Keep this option unchecked.
  9. Select the Upload button.
  10. Select the Save Changes Save icon icon located at the top left of the screen.

  11. Select the Edit Edit icon icon to display drop down options and select Check In icon Check In.
  12. Publish the Media Library file for the change to take affect. (System Administrators ONLY)

 

NOTE: If you are a Content Author, you will need a System Administrator to publish the image(s) to complete the process OR if you added the uploaded images to a page you are submitting for approval, they will publish along with the page once approved.

Upload an Image from the Content Editor (System Administrators Only)
  1. From the Content Editor view, select the Media Library tab at the bottom left of the page. The Media Library window opens.

  2. Navigate to the folder or sub-folder your want the image(s) stored in.
  3. Select the Upload files (advanced) button.

  4. Browse your computer and select the image(s) you wish to upload.
    • Ensure your images are optimized for the web to reduce file size and help make the page load faster.
  5. The files will upload into the Media Library with the option to enter an alternative description in each image. Enter a brief and meaningful description of the image.
    Other options to choose from include:
    • Unpack ZIP archives - Select this option to upload and extract a Zip archive to the Media Library.In the .zip file, you can include subfolders with files. The folder structure is re-created in the Media Library after the files are extracted.
    • Make uploaded media items versionable - Check this option if you wish to save earlier versions of your images.
    • Overwrite existing media items - Select this option to upload a file with the same name as a file that already exists in the Media Library, and want to overwrite the existing file. If you do not select this option, a duplicate file is created in the Media Library.
    • Upload as files - Keep this option unchecked. This option to store the file in the file system rather than in the database.
  6. The images now appear in the content area under the Media title.
  7. Select the Save Changes Save icon icon located at the top left of the screen.
  8. Select the Edit Edit icon icon to display drop down options and select Check In icon Check In.
  9. Publish the Media Library file for the change to take affect.
    • Only System Administrators can Publish the media items.
    • If you added the uploaded images to a page you are submitting for approval, they will publish along with the page so long as the option to include dependent files is selected.

    NOTE: If you are a Content Author, you will need a System Administrator to publish the Media Library file to complete the process.

 

Uploading an image on the Agency Landing Page (System Administrator Only)
  1. From the Content Editor view in the Content Area, scroll to an image area and select the Browse link. The Media Library window will open.
  2. Select the blue Upload media button to browse for a new image on your computer.

    • Note: Make sure the image will be uploaded to the correct media folder by selecting the Change Destination button.
    • Navigate the Media Library tree and choose the folder if not already selected.
    • Select Confirm to upload images to this location.
  3. Drag and drop images from your computer or select the Browse for media files button to search for the image.
  4. Select the image(s) to upload. If more than one image is uploaded, make sure to complete step 4 for each image.
  5. Add a brief description of the image in the Alternate Text field. Note: This is an accessibility requirement and must be entered.
    • The Name field is automatically populated with the file name.
    • The Description field is optional.
  6. Select the blue Upload media button located in the top right corner of the window to upload the image(s).
    • You may need to scroll back to the top of the window to see the button.
    • Please be patient as this may take awhile depending upon the number of images being uploaded and their size.
  7. Once the Media Library window displays again, select the image of your choice from the ones displayed.
  8. Select the blue Submit button to add the image.
  9. Select the Save Changes Save icon icon located at the top left of the screen.
  10. Select the Edit Edit icon icon to display drop down options and select Check In icon Check In.
  11. Publish the Media Library file for the change to take affect.
    • Only System Administrators can Publish the media items.
