General Information

You may qualify to prepare and file your federal and Connecticut individual income tax returns online at no charge.
The free service is made possible from select vendors who have agreed to provide free commercial online tax preparation and electronic filing. 

Please read the information on their website carefully before you begin the filing process. You may be charged a fee for filing your taxes electronically if you do not meet the qualifications.

Be aware of two points in going to these sites:

  1. You must file both your federal and state return for the system to work. If you have already filed your federal return using another electronic filing service, you will not be able to file your state return electronically.
  2. There may be a charge to file your taxes electronically if you do not meet the qualifications.

  • Your AGI is $51,000 or less, regardless of age; or
  • You were active-duty military with an AGI of $89,000 or less.
