Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
The Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) provides reasonable accommodations to make sure people with disabilities are able to communicate with and have equal access to DMHAS programs and services under Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
Critical incidents, as defined by the Connecticut Department of Mental Health & Addiction Services Commissioner's Policy Statement Chapter 6.26, are incidents that may have a serious impact on DMHAS clients, staff, funded agencies or the public.
Police Request for Emergency Examination
Pursuant to Connecticut General Statutes Section 17a-503: "Any police officer who has reasonable cause to believe that a person has psychiatric disabilities and is dangerous to himself or herself or others or gravely disabled, and in need of immediate care and treatment, may take such person into custody and take or cause such person to be taken to a general hospital for emergency examination under this section. The officer shall execute a written request for emergency examination detailing the circumstances under which the person was taken into custody, and such request shall be left with the facility. The person shall be examined within twenty-four hours and shall not be held for more than seventy-two hours unless committed under section 17a-502."

Pretrial Intervention Program (PTIP)
The Office of Pretrial Interventions operates two programs under CT General Statutes 54-56g and 54-56i, respectively, to serve people referred by the court.
The State Advisory Board is a legislatively mandated board that meets monthly with the Commissioner of DMHAS and advises the Commissioner on programs, policies, and plans for the Department.
