TOOLS

Organizations who practice Harm Reduction utilize a spectrum of strategies and tools that are designed to address the unique needs and desires of each individual, on their own terms.  These strategies may serve as a pathway to additional health and social services, including additional prevention, treatment, and recovery services if the individual wants to pursue those goals.

Tools include

  • Information and education (e.g. information about harms associated with different behaviors and information about safer use practices)
  • Materials (e.g. safer substance use supplies, Medication Assisted Therapies, safe housing, and safer sex supplies)
  • Practices (e.g. interventions such as Motivational Interviewing and Stage-based interventions, Stigma reduction practices, and Unconditional Positive Regard)
