The Connecticut Mental Health Center (CMHC) was founded in 1966 as a partnership between DHMAS and the Yale Department of Psychiatry. Located in New Haven, Connecticut state employees work side by side with Yale faculty and staff. CMHC operates 32 inpatient beds as well as community based services and has a total of 500 employees. CMHC participates in the National Health Service Corps Loan Repayment Program. CMHC is also a major training site for individuals pursuing careers in mental health fields including psychiatry, psychology, social work, nursing, and pastoral care. Learn More About CMHC
About the Chief Executive Officer
Michael J. Sernyak, MD is Chief Executive Officer of Connecticut Mental Health Center (CMHC) and professor in the Yale Department of Psychiatry, where he serves as Deputy Chair for Clinical Affairs, Deputy Chair for State Affairs, and co-director of the Division of Public Psychiatry. In 2009 he was appointed CEO of CMHC, a longstanding collaboration between the Yale Department of Psychiatry and the Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services. Dr. Sernyak is an internationally recognized health services researcher who specializes in the treatment issues of the severely mentally ill.
