An OBRD loan to Kaplan Mill Works LLC for environmental investigation, building and infrastructure improvements to this mill site. Initial work began with the cleanup of the mountain of debris, abandoned cars, trailers and contractor waste that was left on this site which had been abandoned for 20 years. The goal is to restore 10 buildings, 150,000 square feet for commercial and industrial space on the 11 acre property. The site will be occupied by small businesses and will be home to Kaplan Mill Works, Kaplan Computers, Kaplan Cycles and Rockville Construction.
The site will also be the home of the proposed New England Motorcycle Museum which will house a collection of more than 200 antique and modern motorcycles. An environmental consultant is on board to characterize and plan for the environmental remediation. In an effort to qualify for the Connecticut Historic Preservation Tax Credit program, an architect has been hired to oversee restoration of the historic buildings.
The Town of Vernon is a partner in this redevelopment.
