HARTFORD — The Department of Consumer Protection will host a free real estate seminar for individuals interested in buying or selling a home. The free seminar will take place at 10 a.m. on Friday Feb. 7 at 450 Columbus Blvd. in Hartford, and virtually on Teams. Interested participants must register in advance to attend.
Due to limited capacity, attendees are encouraged to join online via Teams. There will be a Spanish translation available on the livestream.
“Our role at the Department of Consumer Protection is to educate consumers so they can protect themselves and their families,” said DCP Commissioner Bryan T. Cafferelli. “It is important for home buyers and sellers to know the expectations in today’s real estate market, and the homebuying process can be intimidating and overwhelming. We are pleased to offer homebuyers, especially first timers, the tools and confidence needed to purchase a home.”
The seminar will provide introductory knowledge on purchase contracts, representation agreements, deposits, and required disclosures. Attendees will also have the opportunity to learn the role of homeowners associations, condo boards, and inspections.
Topics will be presented by the agency’s Real Estate Unit, which consists of former real estate professionals. The unit handles real estate complaints and will offer guidance on scam prevention.
All attendees are required to register. A registration form and additional information can be found at portal.ct.gov/homebuying. A recording of the informational seminar will be available after the event.
Those with questions about the seminar may contact dcp.realestate@ct.gov.
