Friday, May 25th 2018 – The Department of Consumer Protection (DCP) has made statistics from the Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP) available through Connecticut Open Data. The public will be able to view annual statistics related to prescriptions of the most prescribed medications, and rates at which controlled substances are prescribed. For example, opioid prescriptions have gone down over the past few years:

“It has always been important to us to make as much information as we can available to the public, especially when it’s related to such an important and complicated subject,” said Consumer Protection Commissioner Michelle H. Seagull, “We know that there is an incredible amount of work that needs to be done to combat the opioid crisis, but the decline in opioid prescriptions is encouraging, and we want the public to have the opportunity to follow this data with us.”

DCP’s Drug Control Division administers the PDMP for the State of Connecticut. They also regulate the distribution of legal drugs and medical devices, license pharmacies and pharmacy staff, and oversee the medical marijuana program.
