Thursday, August 30th, 2018 – Effective on October 1st, Public Act 18-141 requires those who wish to operate a cottage food business in the State of Connecticut to apply for a license with the Department of Consumer Protection (DCP).
Once operators have completed an approved food safety course, applications should be completed online with DCP. Information about food safety courses and a manual for cottage food operators can be found at http://portal.ct.gov/cottagefood. Online applications will be available starting October 1st.
“We wanted to make sure we released information and resources to the public well before the October 1st date so that those who wish to open a cottage food business would have the opportunity to prepare,” said Consumer Protection Commissioner Michelle H. Seagull, “Our goal is to make sure this business model is accessible while protecting public health and safety, and we are excited to support this emerging industry.”
