Wednesday, March 7th, 2018 – Today, the Department of Consumer Protection (DCP) released a guide for those seeking to establish charitable organizations in the state of Connecticut.
In 2017, DCP opened over 100 cases related to charities, and had even more than that in 2016. Those numbers grew dramatically from the previous years in large part because of the agency’s proactive outreach and education efforts. This guide is being released as a continuation of those efforts.
“This past year has been challenging with hurricanes, earthquakes, wildfires, and other disasters effecting friends and family that we love,” said Consumer Protection Commissioner Michelle H. Seagull, “That said, it’s been encouraging and heartwarming to see how many people want to volunteer, donate money or goods, and even start their own organizations. We’re releasing this guide so that everyone in Connecticut who wants to start a charitable organization knows where to start.”
