Wednesday, February 28th 2017 – On Monday, the Board of Physicians met to discuss the addition of four (4) conditions to the state’s Medical Marijuana Program. Commissioner Seagull has accepted the Board’s recommendations, and will begin the process of updating the state’s medical marijuana regulations.
The results of the Board’s votes on each condition were:
- Albinism (Nystagmus): Not recommended
- Opioid Use Disorder/Opiate Withdrawal: Vote tabled for future meeting
- Osteogenesis Imperfecta: Recommended for adults and patients under 18
- Progressive Degenerative Disc Disease of the Spine: Vote tabled for future meeting
“We want to thank the members of the public including patients and medical professionals who came to share their stories and expertise on Monday,” said Consumer Protection Commissioner Michelle H. Seagull, “We value the thoughtful input from the Board of Physicians as we grow this program to support more severely ill patients in the state.”
After DCP adds these conditions to draft regulations, there will be an additional public hearing and comment period. The regulations then will be reviewed by the Office of the Attorney General, and ultimately require the approval of the Regulations Review Committee of the General Assembly.
There are currently 7 conditions in the process of being added to the regulations based on 2017 Board of Physicians meetings that we anticipate will be voted on during this year’s legislative session.
DCP is working with the Board of Physicians to schedule a follow up meeting to further discuss the two conditions that were tabled.
Those who have information to submit to the Board of Physicians ahead of the meeting may email the Medical Marijuana Program at dcp.mmp@ct.gov.
