Board continues discussion regarding the potential addition of two conditions to the Medical Marijuana Program

Wednesday, May 30th 2018 – On Monday, February 26th, the Board of Physicians decided to table a vote on the recommendation of Opioid Use Disorder/Opiate Withdrawal, and Progressive Degenerative Disc Disease of the Spine as additions to the Medical Marijuana Program. The record was kept open until the end of March for those wishing to submit written testimony. That testimony is currently being reviewed by the Board and will be discussed and voted on at a public meeting on June 25th at 8:30am at 450 Columbus Blvd, Meeting Rooms C & D in the North Tower.

This meeting is a follow up to the public hearing held in February. The Board may ask that individuals who submitted testimony be present for questions, but additional testimony will not be heard at this meeting.

“I want to thank the Board of Physicians for putting so much thought into this important process,” said Consumer Protection Commissioner Michelle H. Seagull, “In Connecticut, we’re lucky to have a Medical Marijuana Program that values the input of physicians. We’re grateful that so many people were able to submit written testimony to support the Board as they consider making recommendations.”

Once the Board votes to make recommendations, the Commissioner of the Department of Consumer Protection (DCP), will consider those recommendations and make a decision regarding whether or not to add them to the state’s medical marijuana regulations.

After DCP adds conditions to draft regulations, there will be an additional public hearing and comment period. The regulations then will be reviewed by the Office of the Attorney General, and ultimately require the approval of the Regulations Review Committee of the General Assembly.

Connecticut’s Medical Marijuana Program currently has 26,253 patients, and 896 certifying physicians.
