Monday, March 27th 2017 – Tomorrow, Connecticut’s first off site naloxone prescribing event approved by the Drug Control Division at the Department of Consumer Protection (DCP) will be held in Hartford. The event is sponsored by New Britain Pharmacy, Northeast Pharmacy Service Corporation, Frontier Communications, and Greater Hartford Harm Reduction Coalition.

DCP is able to extend a pharmacy’s license to an offsite location for an approved event. That way, pharmacists are able to prescribe naloxone, and provide training needed to groups and organizations looking to sponsor events. Attendees who need a naloxone prescription should remember to bring their insurance card so that the pharmacist may bill the insurance as they normally would.

“We’re committed to combating the opioid crisis in whatever way we can, and we know there’s not just one solution,” said Consumer Protection Commissioner Jonathan A. Harris, “I’m proud that our agency has taken steps to make naloxone prescriptions, training, and information that can support those suffering from addiction more accessible. I want to thank the organizations that planned this event for helping us move this work forward. It is a great example of one way pharmacies can partner with communities in need.”

WHO: Consumer Protection Commissioner Jonathan A. Harris with New Britain Pharmacy, Northeast Pharmacy Service Corporation, Frontier Communications, and Greater Hartford Harm Reduction Coalition
WHAT: Naloxone Prescribing Event
WHEN: Tuesday, March 28th at 5:00pm

DCP oversees pharmaceuticals in Connecticut, and is home to the Commission of Pharmacy, that makes many of great programs like this one possible. Pharmacies and pharmacists interested in obtaining approval to prescribe at an offsite event may contact DCP’s Drug Control Division by emailing dcp.drugcontrol@ct.gov or by calling (860) 713-6065.
